IICP has
played a critical role as a catalyst for the development of
services for persons with disability, particularly Cerebral
Palsy. The ethos of partnership is reflected in IICP’s work
in Kolkata slums that commenced through a participatory
action research project in 2000. In this project, IICP
teamed up with three renowned development organisations
working for health and education in the slums. From six slum
sites, the programme now covers twenty three slums, and has
helped to motivate field workers, families and the community
to include persons with disability in mainstream life.
Between
1994 and 1999, IICP partnered development agencies in
initiating and developing services in each district of West
Bengal. More recently Community development projects
focusing on disability and development in rural and
semi-rural communities in the districts of West Bengal are
conducted in partnership with three development agencies and
a well reputed corporate house
